Modi Visit US - Advantage Trump
Indian (our) Prime Minister Narendra Modi
completed his US visit including Portugal and Netherland. India First (Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-Make In India Policy) clashes to America First (US
President Donald Trump – America First Policy). There is no doubt that Prime
Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump held talks, stepped out into
the Rose Garden at the White House and read out their each own prepared
statements – two different statements as “joint statement”.
But this time Modi’s US visit is more
beneficiary For US (rather to say for Donald Trump) than India (for Narendra
Modi). First thing I smelled something missing form Modi-Trump’s first meet. It
was not like Modi-Obama’s first meet. Of course in future we will see good progress
in America-India and Trump-Modi relationships because of NEED. I observe this
meeting as a get-to-know-each other affair not for a deal kind of encounter. There
were no tangible achievements on policy levels also. The goal was for the two
men to meet each other and have a good conversation about where they see the
relationship going. Warmth of Modi-Obama wasn’t seen. Modi
didn't switch to 'Donald' with the delectable ease with which he called
'Barack'. May be due to different background -- one
comes from poverty, the other embodies wealth and privilege -- but they are
very similar in terms of their politics and how they view the media.
Scenario is now changed from many angles for
America-India. India needs FDIs from reach country like US but there are many
countries which are eagerly participating in Modi’s Make In India, so India is
not just depending on United States only, on the contrary US and Trump has
become more dependent on two country China and India for survival and creation
of jobs in US. Looking to China’s ambition and intention White House will
always preferred to encourage Delhi to increase trade between both Democratic
Countries. At the same time US will also try to maintain their relationship
with China and Pakistan on certain level to keep India under pressure.
US needs to sell out their arms (as only
in this field US is having better technologies and quite ahead too from China,
India, Russia and others) to keep their economy live and at present India is
the only country which has both capacity and requirements. Drone and an order for 100 Boeing aircrafts
are examples.
Noting much importance with upcoming MALABAR naval
exercise and declaring Syed
Salahuddin as a terrorist because it do not make any difference on Pakistan
that we all knows very well. Plus American President Trump will focus on the
terror groups that pose the greatest threat to Americans because of his America
First policy. Even though joint
statements mentions much about US-India Cooperation on combating likes of LeT
but we will see the Trump administration will be focusing more on
Afghanistan-effected terrorist than on India-effected LeT or JeM.
Two
points in favour of Modi from this visit:-
First, A Deal to provide surveillance drones to
India. This will be helpful for the country.
Second, Donald Trump expects that India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do much more for 'America First'. The body language of both men was largely
positive. And in the end, we even had not one, but two bear hugs.
“The strengthening of India’s defence capabilities with
the help of USA is something that we truly appreciate. We have also decided to
enhance maritime security cooperation between the two nations,” the prime
minister said.
“President Trump and I have also spoken
about strengthening bilateral defence technology and our trade and
manufacturing partnership, which we believe will be mutually beneficial to us.
We also discussed international issues and our common strategic interests in
this country,” he said.
But
wait and watch
Due to unpredictability of Donald Trump and there may be chance that
within few days he will have forgotten this meeting with Narendra Modi happened
or not, one can never rule out the possibility of surprises.
