Being Prime Minister Of India - Jawaharlal Nehru
1
Jawaharlal Nehru
Tenure:
- from 15th August 1947 To 27th May, 1964. 16 Years and
264 Days.
Party:
- INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS
Family
and Political Background: - Jawaharlal Nehru, born on 14th November
1889 in Allahabad (U.P.) was son of Motilal Nehru. Motilal Nehru was an Indian lawyer, an activist of the Indian National Movement and
an important leader of the Indian National Congress. Motilal Nehru had served as the Congress President twice, 1919–1920 and 1928–1929. Motilal Nehru was the founder
patriarch of the Nehru-Gandhi family
Jawaharlal
Nehru was a graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge, England. He was a
Barrister when he came back to India. He was connected with Allahabad High
Court for his career and he took interest in politics by side of his practice
as lawyer. He became the prominent leader of the Indian National Congress.
Circumstances
and situation to become PM
Because
of his English and command over languages with committed nationalist since his
teenage years, he just became a popular figure in Indian politics. In fact Jawaharlal
Nehru was one of the few leaders who were demanding for Complete Independence.
Nehru had drafted the Indian
declaration of independence before Lahore session of Congress on 29 December
1929, which stated:
"We
believe that it is the inalienable right of the Indian people, as of any other
people, to have freedom and to enjoy the fruits of their toil and have the
necessities of life, so that they may have full opportunities of growth. We
believe also that if any government deprives a people of these rights and
oppresses them the people have a further right to alter it or abolish it. The
British government in India has not only deprived the Indian people of their
freedom but has based itself on the exploitation of the masses, and has ruined
India economically, politically, culturally and spiritually. We believe
therefore, that India must sever the British connection and attain Purna Swaraj
or complete independence."
After
Lahore Session, Due to his mentor Gandhiji, he came out with the prominent
leader and he gradually emerged as a natural successor of Gandhiji. Because Gandhiji
stepped down towards more spiritual role then a political leader.
When
India got freedom, there were at-least 3 candidates for Prime Ministership. 1.
Jawaharlal Nehru 2. Vallabhbhai Patel, who had also took part and sacrificed into
freedom movement equalling to Jawaharlal Nehru. And 3. Subhashchandra Bose. In spite
Subhashchandra Bose has left congress and had taken different way, his Moto was
same – Freedom, he was also a better candidate for PM.
But
Mentor Gandhiji favoured Jawaharlal for the First Prime Minister of India. Vallabhbhai
Patel appointed as the First Deputy Prime Minister and the First Home Minister
of India, who played a fantastic role for United India. Subhashchandra Bose has
been neglected.
Work Performance:-
Though,
Jawaharlal Nehru has become the First Prime Minister due to Gandhiji, he was
having qualities and capabilities for Prime Minister. He was one of the best 3.
So it is not a question about his qualification. As a first Prime Minister he
was having responsibility to build the Nation. Destiny of the Nation was in his
hand. As far as work performance is concern he had made absolutely superb. He
is a man who has played significant role to make Modern India. He has put the Nation on right track to move
further. What India we are watching, is due to Jawaharlal Nehru. He has made
India truly Democratic Country. He should be credited for his Social activities
during initial years of Nation. He was also known for the reform of the Hindu
Civil Code. It permitted Hindu widow to enjoy equal right with men as far as
property and inheritance was concerned.
He
has preferred Industry to boost economy and job to people. He is considered to
be the architect of the modern Indian nation-state: a sovereign, socialist,
secular, and democratic republic. It would be Injustice to him for saying he
has nothing done for the Country. He had played absolutely majestic role in
those situations. Most important and most appreciable work he has done is- He
has not put India in Bagger condition. He has kept India and Indian pride. He
had not put India on shameful position at any stage.
Miss:-
Jawaharlal Nehru has missed
two points, which he could have been done easily. First Common Civil Code: -
when hard Muslims have left India and morality and mentality of all people was
on peak due to freedom, he should have convinced people easily to apply Common
Civil Code for New India.
Second he didn’t solve
Kashmir Problem and it is now a major headache of the country.
